Work Center as Agent

Good morning all!!  Has anyone ever used a work center as an agent to
notify/send a work item to.  How does this work exactly?  What inbox does it
go to and if it is a general inbox, how is it accessed and does the work
item retain the name of the person executing the email or is this
functionality lost and only the work center retained??  Any insight here
would be greatly appreciated.
