Novell Groupwise e-mail integration

If "integration" means notification there is a standard SAP program that
will probably suit your needs (and you already have the note number).
Otherwise it is not too difficult to create your own solution. The basic
requirement is that you must in some way be able to find the e-mail address
of a person (user or employee), either in SAP or in Groupwise.

Statoil has an in-house developed solution to send notifications to our
mailboxes in Lotus Notes, and it works fine. When the user opens the
message some generic information is displayed for 10 seconds (the message
autocloses) and a SAP GUI is started for the correct system.

In any event, by setting up different job variants you can notify several
times a day for urgent matters (select on task ID) and once a day for any
matter (perhaps with some tasks being excluded). One reason for deciding
not to use the tight integration which gives you the workitems in the inbox
in Notes was that such tight integration requires polling to SAP and that
placed an unacceptably heavy load on communication lines and the SAP
servers. For really urgent matters there is always the Terrific Electric
Low-cost Easy-to-use Possibly-portable Old-fashioned-but-reliable
Notification dEvice, to most people known only by its alias TELEPHONE. It
is still in use here in Statoil at least.

Has anyone integrated Novell Groupwise with Workflow? We here at the
Unicity project in Cape Town have a requirement to do this, but are not
sure how to go about it, how much work is involved etc. I have heard
that integration with Microsoft Outlook, for example, is
straightforward.

I did get the OSS note no. 131795 : E-mail notification of Workflow
items, which includes a large amount of ABAP code, but this seems to be
a generic 'fix'.

We would greatly appreciate any help/comment on this!
