Documentation for Approval Workflow?

Hello workflowers,
I have a customer who wants to install an approvel workflow with the
following details:
 
"...In general this process gets inputs on costs,
margin estimates, risks (technical and non-technical), etc. and then
gets
approvals from various levels and departments of management depending on
the
amount of risk, margin, etc."
 
I am looking for an english description of such a real process
(invoices, banfs or what ever) to show the customer at an example, what
workflow can do for him. It should be not very difficult, preferably
with pictures of a workflow definition.
 
May be any one of you has a documentation or a link to a web-page?
