Adhoc_object in a workflow mail

Hello,
I am facing a problem in a workflow : I'd like to send a mail in a step of a workflow with an adhoc object linked to it. The binding
conditions are coherent but I have nothing linked to the mail in the business worplace. Does that mean that I must link the object in a workflow activity and reach this object in a work item ?
