work items getting reserved

Marty,

This might be a silly suggesting but have you checked if the approvers
aren't 'touching' the workitem just to view it and then backing out? I=
f
you half execute a workitem it will become reserved even if you don't
actually execute the pre-configured step (in your case the approve, rej=
ect
or send back for changes tasks). If a user executes a workitem and the=
n
backs out with a cancel they need to use the Replace functionality to
un-reserve the workitem.

One last thing, what do you mean by it, "just sits there in process"?
What would you like the workitem to do at that stage. Would deadline
monitoring be appropriate at that stage?

I hope this helps.

We have a custom approval workflow tied to the personal expense transac=
tion
trip_ewt. The users enter their expenses into workplace, the trip is s=
ent
to an approver's inbox for approval or rejection. The approvers access=

their work items via the workplace inbox and the only functionality the=
y
are given from there is to click on the work item, view the trip detail=
s
and approve, reject or send back for changes. It doesn't happen very
often, but once in awhile we find a work item that has been reserved by=
 the
approver and just sits there in process. I know how to fix it, but can=

anyone tell me how this might be happening?

Thanks in advance,
