Work item only executes in preview window

Hi,
Thanks for that, it has an 'X', as does the other task that works.
Interestingly enough, I can't seem to get rid of it. I've deactivated it
in the task, eventually removed it from the task. Still there seems to
be a container element with an X in it.
Anyone know what exactly the 'extended' element does? I've checked the
SAP help, the book etc...
 
Another thing: These tasks that will only display the decision buttons
in the preview window will also only ever set to 'reserved' status. If I
manually hack the status to 'in process', then it works normally.
