Can the status of the workflow be changed?

Try to use the method 'status_change' of the business object 'flowitem'. You
can then change the status to what you prefer.

        Hi People,
          I have a unique problem. Due to a network problem the workitem
which was executed did not get cleared from the inbox. Upon checking the
workflow log, they still have the status "in process".
        But the release to the Purchase order was actually completed. So onw
the workitme doen't get off and doesn't allow to execute as the document is
already released.
 
        Has anyone faced problem like this before? Is there a wayt o change
the status of the workitems to complete? Or is deleting the workitme the
only option?
