Triggering Event via Change Documents

Hello all,
 
I want to trigger an event  when a Maintenance Order (BUS2007) is cancelled.
Status Management would seem the most likely trigger mechanism to use.
Unfortnately, here, the status does not need to be set for the RCV to be
considered cancelled. Thus the only reliable way of doing this is via Change
Documents on a field (AFIH.ILOAI) whose data element is not checked for
Change Documents.  I know I can get an access key from SAP to change this
but I'm wondering is this considered best practice.
