Send Internet Email

Hi Roger,
 
SAP does provide a 'Send Mail' task in 4.6 so sending a mail from workflow
is quite easy. However, it is difficult to make a call between WF vs output
as there are various things to consider, i.e. Performance - Is it worth it
to kick off a WF just to send a mail? Volumes? etc.

We are looking to generate an internet email order confirmation following
the placing of the order in our online store.
 
What would be the best apporach, generate the email directly from output, or
generate the email via workflow?
 
If via workflow, any suggestions as to objects and or standard tasks would
