Workflow outbox

Hi all,
 
We have implemented a workflow on a 4.6C system. The workflow kicks off from
a starting event. The trouble is, that users are receiving started workflows
in their workflow outbox. As the number of started workflows increases
loading times for the business workplace start to get quite long.
 
Is there a way to stop that or to clear the workflow outbox?
