Using XML BAPI's and capturing XML documents in Webflow

Hi,
 
We will be using a product called 'Webmethods' which can pass an XML
document to SAP.   We are also going to be using Workflow for some of our
Maintenance Tasks.  XML keeps coming up as the preferred method of passing
data to SAP for both workflow and as part of interfaces.  Does anyone have
any pointers on using XML for Workflow and/or as incoming documents?  Does
one need to know JAVA to interpret incoming XML etc..?
