Hi Michael,
It's necesary a underling mechanism as Exchange Connnector o Internet Mail
Geteway before the mails sent externally. The question about the election
must to consider the work of support two independent mail systems and
address consistency problems.
When you setting up the integration between the R/3 workflow and internet
there are two phases:
I) Interconnect mails. Several option are available:
        a) SAP Exchange connector.
        b) SAP Mail Gateway: This is possible use with NT. You need a Mail Transfer
Agent (MTA) for routing message and rewrite address information. There are
several programs as smail, qmail and sendmail. Sendmail is available for NT
through Sendmail. Inc.
        c) Mlsopop3, is a post office protocol (POP) server that allow retrieve you
SAPoffice mail using Outlook Express.
        d) SAP MAPI Service Provider, is a Mapi interface that allow you retrieve
your SAPoffice Mail and access workflow items using Outlook.
        e) SAP LDAP Gateway, is a client for access LDAP services from SAP.
II) Access the workitems. There are options:
        a) Outlook using SAPForms interfaces. You need develope the forms and adapt
the workflow to this technology.
        b) Visual Basic Forms and SAPForms. You need develope the forms and adapt
the workflow to this technology. With Visual basic you too work with RFC
server or SAP_WAPI RFCs.
        c) SAP Mapi Service provider. You don't need develope and is unnecesary
adapt the workflows. But there are other problems.

If you want use SAP exchange Connector you must work in five areas:
1) Basis: install the pakage basis and OSS notes especially 100232 (SAPForms
with Exchange Server) and 0131795 (Problem with RSWUWFML).
2) Installation of SAP Exchange Connector: address space, queues, message
size, gateway, RFC-IN, RFC-OUT, Logs.
3) Configuration of Exchange Server: Create accounts for each R/3 user,
WF-BATCH, RFC-IN, routing tables.
4) Configuration of R/3 client: forwarding messages and security.
5) Configuration R/3 Server: Need create RFC connection, make settings in
workplace and generate node in SAPConnect, set inbound distribution and
jobs.

Boris Drazenovic
