Scot,
The trick is to create a subtype of busxxxx called zbussxxx.
Then delegate it using the system-wide settings in BOR.
Now you can extend zbusxxx (or redefine methods/attributes).
 
The important thing is to use busxxx (not zbus) in your workflow. All the
changes that you make to zbus are automatically inherited by busxxx.
You haven't modified a thing so any improvements that SAP makes to busxxx in
the next Release are automatically incorporated into your workflow :-)

have done previously with ZBUS..........
