How to attach an object in a workitem

What's the difference between SOFM.Attach and SELFITEM.Note_Create?
I'm new to workflow, I don't really know the difference.
 
Is it possible for me to add a button on the workitem? That way, I can write
an ABAP program to do what I need. Will this work?
