Object attributes refresh

I am building a workflow in 3.1i that includes the following process:
 - Container operation to store the value of a virtual multiline object
attribute in the workflow container
 - Synchronous dialog method to change the object (FIPP.Change)
 - Background method to compare the previous value of the attribute stored in
the workflow container with the current value of the attribute (passed in the
workflow - task binding as FIPP.attributename), looking for a common line
between both multiline elements.
However, the attribute passed after the object has been changed is still the
same as it was before - the object's attributes are not being re-determined.

I realise that there are several ways that this could be achieved, and I was
hoping you could suggest the best way to refresh the attribute during the
workflow, based on your previous experiences. I could add code to the change
method, or create new methods if necessary.

Many thanks,
Rob Bates,
