Dynamic columns in 4.6c

Rob,

In 46C you should really use the workflow grouping option. This is based on
the default attribute of the object contained in the _WI_Group_id container
element. It is quite different from the previous dynamic column
functionality and has it's own advantages and disadvantages.

Be aware that the object in the groupid element needs to be the *same*
instance in all workitems for the grouping to operate correctly! Meaning
that you can not just use the main object you are using in your workflow to
group on, as this results in one group per object (as, according to the new
grouping function, a different object is a different group). Where the
grouping in the old version was text based (if you for instance were using
grouping on custom attributes displayed in dynamic columns), this is not the
case anymore. To overcome this I do grouping on a lower level object which I
instaniate and move into the grouping element at the beginning of the
workflow (eg use of the 'administrator' object within the WI_Group_id
element instantiated by using the employee.administrator attribute instead
of grouping on the employee object with default attribute 'administrator').

In the situation that you can not use the standard default attribute of an
object to group on you have to delegate the object and designate another
attribute as 'default' for your grouping to be succesful.

Subject: Dynamic columns in 4.6c

I have successfully stopped the user decision appearing in the preview pane
(thanks Richard). I now have another problem with something that worked OK
in
4.6b, but now doesn't work in 4.6c (this is a new, separate system - not an
upgrade from the 4.6b system). I have set up a Business Workplace dynamic
column
for a particular task: the column is correctly displaying the information I
expected (an attribute of the object), but the column heading is not the
header
I specified in my configuration, but still says "Dynamic column". This is
true
even when I open the "Grouped according to task" folder and choose this
particular task. The SAP documentation says that my column heading should be
displayed provided only work items of that task are displayed - and this
worked
OK in 4.6b. (For information: I found that in 4.6b, the customised column
heading was always displayed, provided there were no other tasks in the list
with differently configured dynamic columns!). Has anyone else had this
experience? Is there a way to get the dynamic column heading displayed in my
4.6c system?

Another problem I've noticed is that the "Group according to content" and
"Group
according to content type" folders are empty (but work items are displayed
in
the overall view and the "Grouped according to task" folder) - can anybody
explain this?

Many thanks,
