Archiving work items

Hi,

We have a large volume workflow implementation (approximately 50,000 work
items per day) and are currently trying to decide whether to delete old work
items via the archive object or to use the deletion reports. We have
written our own deletion report which utilizes RSWWWIDE and RSWWHIDE to
delete the work items and their history. The problem with this report is
that it takes a very long time to delete a large number of work items. It
is my understanding that it is much quicker to delete work items via the
archive object WORKITEM. OSS note #145291 says that the runtime of the
deletion process can be reduced by a factor of 10 after applying the note.

I would like to delete old work items using the archive process but
according to note #117191 the work item history is only deleted from the
flow items and not the subordinate work items. Also, it would be difficult
to delete the work item history of the subordinate work items using RSWWHIDE
since the only selection criteria is work item number.

Has anyone implemented an archive/deletion process for work items? If so,
how did you get around the problem with the work item history?

Thanks,
