Vibrational energy transfer is an important part of almost every chemical process. In this talk I will describe experimental measurements of vibrational energy flow in molecules adsorbed on surfaces and in liquids. Most vibrational energy measurements are interpreted as a flow of energy from one state to another. The emphasis in this talk is on measurements where energy is deposited by ultrashort laser pulses at a specific location of the molecules and then probed at different locations, so the energy transfer can be interpreted as energy flow from one part of a molecule to another.
