TO: Members of the MIT Community

FROM: Information Services and Technology (IS&T)

WHAT: IS&T will upgrade the Exchange email infrastructure from Exchange Server 2007 to Exchange Server 2010

WHEN: Beginning at Midnight on Sat, 10/8 into Sunday, 10/9 early morning

HOW THIS AFFECTS YOU: Users should expect a brief outage during this time. Updates will be posted on the Services Status web page: <http://3down.mit.edu <http://3down.mit.edu/> >. After the upgrade is complete, the most notable change will be the new look and layout of the Outlook Web Apps (OWA) login page: <http://kb.mit.edu/confluence/x/UYC0Ag> .

WHAT YOU NEED DO: For most, the upgrade will be transparent, however, some users may need to restart their email application.

WHAT’S NEXT: The October 9 upgrade positions us for the next phase, which will include the migration of user data from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010 mailbox servers. To minimize impact on the community, these mailbox migrations will take place after business hours and will schedule by Department, Lab, and Center. Mailbox migrations are expected to be completed by December 31, 2011. A week before your mailbox migration will occur, you will receive email notification and given further instructions on how to prepare.

If you have questions, please contact your local IT support personnel or contact the IS&T Help Desk <mailto:helpdesk at mit.edu> or you can call them at 617-253-1101.

Cordially,
Deb
