Good Morning,

Yesterday, Apple released iOS 4.3.5<http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1431> for the GSM (AT&T) iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, all iPads, and third and fourth generation iPod Touch. Additionally, iOS 4.2.10<http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1432> was released for the CDMA (Verizon) iPhone 4.

The importance of this update is that it addressed a security vulnerability with certificate validation found in the previous version of iOS. According to Apple, the exploit could allow "an attacker with a privileged network position may capture or modify data in sessions protected by SSL/TLS." A summary of the update can be found under Apple Support Article HT4824<http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4824>.

We recommend that ALL users that are using one of the above listed iOS devices, update their devices via iTunes<http://www.apple.com/itunes/> (available on both PC and Mac). For instructions on how to backup, update, and restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch please refer to the following Apple documentation iTunes: Backing up, updating, and restoring your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch software<http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414>.

If your unable to complete this update or if you need other mobile device related assistance, please contact the Mobile Devices Team at mobile-help at mit.edu<mailto:mobile-help at mit.edu>.
