MIT Career Advising & Professional Development and the Office of Graduate Education are pleased to announce the opening of this year's application to our Path of Professorship conference. This program is designed for graduate students and postdoctoral researchers who are interested in pursuing careers in academia. The aim of this conference is to provide information about applying to and starting a career in academic science. This year we are able to gather a wonderful group of women and nonbinary professors from MIT and a diverse range of colleges and universities to share about their experiences in academia.

The workshop is open to individuals who identify as and or support the unique experiences of women and other underrepresented gender groups within the academy. Its aim is to provide essential guidance and information about academic careers and the application process. If you have any questions or concerns about the program’s goals or your candidacy, please reach out to pofp2026 at mit.edu.

Attendees learn:

Key strategies for applying and interviewing for academic positions.
  *
Characteristics of different types of colleges and universities.
  *
How to effectively and concisely communicate research.
  *
Advice from faculty on how to foster a community of support and mentoring in your lab.
  *
Advice on maintaining a balanced life, in light of the rigorous demands of a career in academia.
  *
How to leave a lasting impact on your students and community.

Path of Professorship will be held in person. All sessions on Saturday, October 24th and Sunday, October 25th will be held in person at the Samberg Conference Center. Meals accommodating for dietary restrictions will be provided. A tentative schedule is attached.
