We are excited to invite you to the first session of Postdoc Night Science Boston, hosted by Itai Yanai, a leading expert in computational biology and gene regulation. Itai is also the host of the Night Science podcast, where he explores the creative and often unconventional paths that drive scientific discovery, featuring conversations with researchers who are breaking new ground in their fields.
The postdoctoral career stage is a critical time to deepen one's understanding of the creative scientific process. Postdocs are often tasked with establishing their own innovative research programs and designing experiments that advance scientific knowledge—challenges that require thinking beyond the conventional. Skills such as identifying new research questions, embracing interdisciplinarity, and fostering collaborative creativity (Yanai & Lercher, 2019, 2020, 2024) are crucial for success.
Yet, despite these demands, training in creative thinking remains limited, leaving many postdocs less prepared for scientific risk-taking, open-ended exploration, and hypothesis development. Cultivating scientific creativity not only enhances the quality of research but also increases career satisfaction and retention in academia.
