This half-day workshop is the outreach event for the FRED program. This workshop will provide information on grant writing, especially for NSF and NIH grants with special breakout sessions for programmatic grants and various grant opportunities. This workshop provides information on what is needed to prepare for a grant, writing the grant, or how to revise a grant for submission. The meeting will be provide time to speak with program officers and ask questions about different grant programs. The Pre-FRED also provides details on what is needed for a successful FRED program application.

All workshop participants will receive a copy of the following texts:

At the Helm: Leading Your Laboratory: In the second edition of this book, Kathy Barker has substantially revised the text, offering PIs advice on adapting to the changes and challenges that the years have brought. New topics include collaboration contracts, performance evaluations, communicating with non-scientists, tips for succeeding on the tenure track, and professional development. With this book as a guide, any new or aspiring PI will be well-equipped to manage personnel, time, and institutional responsibilities with confidence.

GrantWriters manual: The workbooks are guides to successful grantsmanship. Many of the clients regard theirs as the ultimate authority on proposal writing. That level of regard stems from the practical, step-by-step approach that is offered, which you can sample by clicking on the cover of any of the versions - NIH<https://www.grantcentral.com/workbooks/national-institutes-of-health/>, NSF<https://www.grantcentral.com/workbooks/national-science-foundation/>, USDA-NIFA<https://www.grantcentral.com/workbooks/usda-nifa/> or Any Other Agency<https://www.grantcentral.com/workbooks/any-other-agency/>.
