Dear MIT Postdocs,
The Independent Activities Period (IAP) at MIT starts today. This is a special term that runs through the month of January and offers many short-term workshops and courses to advance your career and enrich your experience at MIT.
The IAP highlight for this week is a workshop on Inclusive Teaching, organized by MIT postdocs:
----------------------------------------------------
Last summer, qtPhDs<http://qtphds.mit.edu> offered an inclusive teaching workshop titled Inclusive Classrooms: How to Leverage Identity to Improve your Teaching Practice. Because of high demand, we are offering this 3-hr workshop again as an IAP session<http://student.mit.edu/searchiap/iap-9289afed6d8d2830016e8f8a477503e3.html>. If you missed the opportunity to attend during the summer, now is your chance to take the course.
To guarantee your spot, the deadline to register is this Wednesday, January 8th at 11:59 pm.
This interactive workshop is designed to help members of the MIT community improve their teaching skills by learning to foster inclusive environments for their students. Attendees will be asked to consider how their own identities influence their roles as instructors and mentors, and reflect upon how preparations for the first day of class can set the tone for an inclusive classroom year-round.
In this workshop, you will learn how to
- identify how different teaching practices can be received by diverse audiences,
- assess strategies that promote inclusivity starting with the first day of class, and
- create an action plan to address inclusivity in your classroom.
