Dear Postdocs,
This week is National Postdoc Appreciation Week, a time to recognize the significant contributions postdoctoral scholars make during their training at MIT. I am personally so happy to work with and on behalf of all you. Each MIT Postdoc Associate and Fellow has been invited to a luncheon on October 1st, hosted by Maria Zuber, Vice President for Research, along with Anantha Chandrakasan, Dean of the School of Engineering and Michael Sipser, Dean of Science. If you have not yet RSVP’d to the luncheon, please use this link and register by the end of this week.

Develop a Meaningful Elevator Pitch
Thu 9/19, 1:30pm
Location: 3-133
Research shows that 30% of interviewers make decisions within the first five minutes of an interview. Influencing that decision is your response to the first question, which is Tell me about Yourself, or Tell me why you are interested in this position. Developing the right response is critical. This workshop will provide tips and guidance on how to develop your message and deliver it in an effective manner. Actual MIT PhD/Postdoc elevator pitches will be provided as handouts.

Program Directors from Insight Data Science will be leading a discussion on careers in data science, health data science, and data engineering. Scientists and engineers from diverse fields, including physics, astronomy, computational biology, neuroscience, math, statistics, chemical engineering and computer science, are playing key roles in transforming the way companies and public institutions work with data to impact our daily lives.
This event will: (1) provide a high-level overview of data science in the technology industry and (2) describe the Insight Fellows Program. The session will include time for Q&A, as well as advice for those interested in transitioning to careers in data science and data engineering.
