To all MIT postdocs:
Last spring, as MIT opened the Schwartzman College of Computing, faculty and staff from across humanities and arts disciplines launched a publication series<https://shass.mit.edu/news/news-2019-ethics-computing-and-ai-perspectives-mit> on computer science and artificial intelligence. Their goal was to ""explore ideas about ways that research and education from all the MIT Schools might interact with, benefit from, guide and inform emerging computer science and AI tools." The resulting debut issue comprises commentaries on the ethical and societal concerns of computing and AI from across many disciplines.
Submissions are now open for the second issue, to which all associated with MIT are invited to contribute, including postdocs. This issue will be primarily visual and project-based, with a wide range of content from as many types of art practice as possible. Short commentaries (700-800 words) are also welcome. Works by artists not affiliated with MIT will also be considered, with a short justification explaining why it is important. Please see this Google form<https://forms.gle/yqUq9ddVz8HkPgNL9> for guidance on content, formats, and submission steps.
The intention is to publish this fall. Toward that goal, we are suggesting a fairly quick submission deadline of September 20.
This publication series is organized by faculty leadership of School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences and of the School of Architecture and Planning, as well as the Executive Director of Arts Initiatives Leila Kinney. You may direct questions to Leila Kinney (lwkinney at mit.edu<mailto:lwkinney at mit.edu>) or to Tim Fessenden (tfessend at mit.edu) one of the postdoc members of the Creative Arts Council.
