This Week
MIT Press Bookstore MOVING SALE!
The MIT Press Bookstore is moving and we need to reduce inventory. Please
help us find good homes for some great books by coming to our MOVING SALE!
We've taken over an office adjacent to the bookstore, and have filled it
with thousands of heavily discounted MIT Press books. For the next two
weeks, this "sale annex" will be open from 10am-6pm every day (except
Columbus Day). Inside you will find stacks of out-of-print books, gently
shop-worn books, books without dust-jackets, plus piles of MIT Press
journal back-issues. Come browse and enjoy huge savings. Fans of our
Loading Dock Sale will be familiar with the pricing scheme...Nothing more
than $10, and the vast majority of books will 5 bucks or less! FYI, there
will not be a loading dock sale this year...Please come to our moving sale
instead. On Saturday, October 8th, all of the prices on remaining sale
inventory will drop, and then on Thursday and Friday, October 13th & 14th,
EVERYTHING that is left will be $1 EACH! And that's not all...For the
duration of the sale, every new book in the regular bookstore will 20% off
too. The MIT Press Bookstore will be relocating to 301 Massachusetts Avenue
(N50) beginning on October 24th. Same great books, but soon with more
space! Our last day of operation at 292 Main Street will be Thursday,
October 20th, 2016.

Does your Resume Communicate the Right Message?

Hiring Manager. Can your resume survive a 15 second scan and still get into
the YES pile? Discussions will surround the strategies of effective
messaging and how to be "on-point" with your written communication. Your
resume is not an autobiography, but rather a list of relevant
accomplishments that links your skills to the needs of the company. You'll
use these techniques in your lifelong career strategies.

Sixth Annual John H. Carlson Lecture at the New England Aquarium
"Big Ice: Antarctica, Greenland, and Boston" Lecture by Dr. Richard Alley,
the Evan Pugh Professor of Geosciences in Penn State’s College of Earth and
Mineral Sciences. An ice sheet is a two-mile-thick, continent-wide pile of
old snow, spreading under its own weight and sculpting the land beneath.
The ice sheet that buried Boston 20,000 years ago melted when slowly acting
features of Earth's orbit raised summer sunshine and atmospheric CO2,
warming the climate. The history of that Ice Age can still be read in
Boston Harbor, and in the layers of the surviving ice sheets on Antarctica
and Greenland. But, more warming may melt those ice records, as break-off
of huge icebergs and outburst floods speed sea-level rise.
Date and Time Thursday, October 13, 7:00 - 9:00 pm. Doors open at 6:15 p.m.
for educational displays and light refreshments with MIT students and
scientists.
