The National Research Foundation (NRF) of Singapore is spearheading the
organization of the 2nd Global Young Scientists Summit at one-north 2014
(GYSS at one-north), an international multi-disciplinary research summit,
in Singapore from 19 January (Sunday) to 24 January (Friday), 2014. The
inaugural GYSS at one-north 2013 attracted close to 280 bright young
international scientific talents to Singapore, where over the course of
a week, had close interactions with 16 eminent scientists, ranging from
Nobel Laureates, to Turing Awardees, Fields Medallists and Millennium
Technology Awardees. Both participants and speakers also had the unique
opportunity to immerse themselves in the local research, education and
innovation eco-system. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s
participation in the GYSS at one-north 2013 was much appreciated and we
certainly hope that once again, we will be able to have your support in
2014.
MIT has been asked to nominate *a total of five participants* made up of
3 PhD students and*2 postdocs*to attend the National Research Foundation
(NRF) of Singapore International Summit:
"*Global Young Scientists Summit @ One-North: An International Meeting
of Bright Young Researchers, Nobel Laureates and Eminent Scientific Leaders"
January 19-24, 2014, in Singapore
*The nomination process is being coordinated jointly by the Office of
the Vice President for Research (for postdocs) and the Office of the
Dean for Graduate Education (for graduate students).
*NRF will cover all**local expenses only; participants or their research
advisors are responsible for airfare*.
*Eligibility*:
* Full time PhD student or POSTDOC at MIT, under age 35
* Fields: Multi-disciplinary (*Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Medicine,
Mathematics, Computer Science, Technology/Engineering*); focus is on
use-inspired research to address major global challenges
* Demonstration of passion and interest in research
* Strong organizational support, preferably recommendation letter from
academic advisor or supervisor
* Possession of good English skills for active discussion and
engagement with peers and speakers, demonstrated strong academic
achievement in area of research, assessed within the top 5-10
percent of cohort

If I receive more than 2 applications, the MIT Selection Committee will
choose the 2 postdoc finalists.
MIT will provide our 5 nominations to the NRF by July 31, 2013. Selected
participants will be informed by the NRF to complete an online
applications by September 30, 2013.
