Hi Scott,

I hope you are enjoying your winter break and had a Happy New Year! We are back at work at the build sites in Peabody and looking forward to working with the MIT volunteers on Saturday, January 22nd.

MIT is the only group we have scheduled for January 22nd, so we are hoping you can coordinate 10 to 15 volunteers for that date! We are building at 5 Park Street, which your group is familiar with, and we have started new construction on two more houses at 12 Park Street. There is plenty of work to be done. Please let me know how many volunteers you expect will be building with us, when you have a chance.

The volunteers should arrive at 8:30 on Saturday morning, and the workday will begin at 8:45. We will meet at the 5 Park Street, Peabody, address. There is on street parking in the area.

The Tabernacle Baptist Church, Pastor Perry Baugh and his wife Stella, have generously offer their meeting room for us to serve lunch to the volunteers. The Tabernacle Baptist Church is located at 11 Summer Street, a few steps away from the build site at 5 Park Street.

I have attached the Volunteer Profile and Waiver form, which you can print/email and have members of your group complete and bring to the site on Saturday January 22nd. Only new Habitat participants need to have a signed waiver form. I have also attached some general information for you to share with the volunteers and our November newsletter to circulate.

Many thanks to the MIT students for volunteering.

All the best, Jeannette

PS Save the date! Our Habitat for Humanity North Shore Spring event (dinner and auction) is planned for Saturday, April 9th , 6pm, Holy Ghost Society Hall, Howley St., Peabody. Bring Friends! Fill a table for a fun night. (more information to be up on the Web site soon)

Hi Scott,

10 to 15 volunteers would be a great number. We can accommodate up to 15,

but we also don't want to turn away enthusiastic volunteers, so if you went

over that is OK too.

I just need to prepare the site supervisors. So maybe you could let me know

on Thursday how many have signed up. Thanks, Jeannette

Hi Scott,

We are all set for your group for Saturday, December 4th. I have attached

some general information for you to share with the volunteers from MIT and

waiver forms. If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate

to call or email.

We are looking forward to building with the MIT volunteers again! Thank you

for your continued support.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving Break, take care, Jeannette

When you come to build, there are a few things to remember:

We work rain or shine.

The workday begins at 8:45AM and will conclude before 3:00PM at a good

stopping point. We understand that not everyone can commit for the entire

day, and sometimes people work only part of the day.

Work boots or heavy sneakers are required. It is a construction site and

there are nails.

We supply safety glasses and hard hats when needed.

We only have a couple of pairs of work gloves, so bring your own if you have

them.

We regret that no one under the age of 16 can be allowed on the build site.

There is cold bottled water on site.

We will order out for lunch - pizza, subs, etc. - if it is not donated. If

you prefer to brown bag it, that's fine too. A $5 donation will be collected

at the start of the day for lunch. If your organization would like to donate

lunch for volunteers at some point, that would be terrific. Just let us

know.

There is a great crew of supervisors on site to instruct and keep everyone

safe. You will have a great time. It is very rewarding to participate on a

Habitat build.

The address:

5 Park Street

The Tabernacle Baptist Church, Pastor Perry Baugh and his wife Stella, have

generously offer their meeting room for us to serve lunch to the volunteers.

The Tabernacle Baptist Church is located at 11 Summer Street, a few steps

away from the build site at 5 Park Street.

Please remember to print and bring a signed waiver form for every member in

your group.

Jeannette,

We are definitely good for 11.13 and 12.4. I'm sure the dates will work out

and we'll be volunteering with you in the spring. Before I pick the dates,

how many build days are we allowed Jan-May? Once I know this, I'll

distribute them throughout the spring.

Thanks again for everything,

Scott

Hi Scott,

Great to hear from you! It is wonderful to have the students at MIT

volunteer with us.

I have your group on the schedule for Saturday, November 13th and December

4th. I hope those dates are still good for you. Josh and I scheduled those

way back in May.

Now would be a great time to schedule your group for 2011.

We have open build dates on January 22nd, February 5th, 19th and 26th, and

March 12th and 26th. All Saturdays in April and May are open.

I hope some of these dates will work with your schedule.

Thank you for your support and being so proactive on behalf of Habitat North

Shore, Best Regards, Jeannette

Jeannette,

Thank you for continuing to work with us throughout 2010, all of our

volunteers love their experience with habitat. In order to get ready for

next semester, when would be a good time for you to book us for build days?

I'm currently looking at January through May.

Thanks again for all your help and I look forward to building with you!

Respectfully,

Scott Landers

Good Morning, Josh,

Thank you for taking the time on Monday to plan a schedule for the MIT

students to volunteer with Habitat of the North Shore. Your group has been

a huge supporter of our projects and we greatly appreciate your efforts!

The dates we scheduled are as follows:

July 10th

August 21st

September 11th

November 13th

December 4th

I will contact MIT two weeks prior to confirm each build date. We may have

an opportunity to schedule a date for the MIT volunteers in October.

Habitat of the North Shore is starting a program called "A Brush with

Kindness". We are planning to schedule dates with homeowners, and we will

be scheduling volunteers to work on these projects in the fall. I will be

in touch regarding this volunteer opportunity.

Congratulations on your new position as President of the Habitat Club at

MIT! I look forward to working with you and the new liaison for our

projects.

Have a great day, take care, Jeannette

A Brush with Kindness

About the program

Habitat for Humanity's A Brush with Kindness is a locally-operated program

serving low-income homeowners who struggle to maintain the exterior of their

homes. The program is a holistic approach to providing affordable housing

and assisting communities as well as families.

How we do it

* Groups of volunteers help homeowners with exterior maintenance. This

typically includes painting, minor exterior repairs, landscaping,

weatherization and exterior clean-up.

* Habitat selects partner families based on income, need and willingness

to partner.

* In addition to volunteers, Habitat uses donated materials and takes no

profit for their services.

* Payments made by the homeowners are placed in a revolving fund to help

A Brush with Kindness serve others in need.

Why it matters

A Brush with Kindness ensures that families live in safe and well-maintained

homes. The program is designed to revitalize the appearance of the

neighborhood, encourage connections within the community, and most

importantly, help preserve affordable housing stock.

Hi Jeannette,

Hope you are doing well and thank you for your email. I know everyone has

enjoyed working with North Shore this past semester. We would love to

schedule some dates for the fall. In addition, many have expressed demand

for summer build days, so we are trying to schedule some build days during

our summer break as well. Perhaps it would be easiest if I contacted you

via phone to schedule some dates. Can you please let me know a convenient

time to call you? I am available anytime after 2pm on Monday, after 4pm on

Tuesday and Thursday, and after 1pm on Wednesday and Friday. Please let me

know what works best for you. Thanks for all of your assistance.

Best regards,

Josh
