Hi all,
Thank you for signing up to participate in the Campus Build cardboard house
building competition! This email contains details and logistics about the
competition.
The objective of the competition is to build a stable structure big enough
to fit all team members. Each team will be allotted an area of the Kresge
BBQ pits approximately 10 ft by 10 ft. Each team will be given 5 rolls of
duct tape (~50 yards per roll) as well as 3 box cutters. (ALWAYS retract
the blades of the box cutters before putting them down.) This year, we
bought cardboard boxes (instead of giving you yucky cardboard we scavenged
from dumpsters). Each team will receive three 22"x22"x22" boxes, three
18"x18"x24" boxes, four 18"x18"x16" boxes, and five 16"x12"x12" boxes. If
we have extra boxes, you're welcome to use them - but please don't hoard the
extra cardboard.
You may bring measuring tape/rulers as well as decorations for your house -
however, you may not bring anything that could add structural support to the
house. You may stick things into the lawn of Kresge Oval as long as they
are shallower than 3 inches. Please do not dig holes in the lawn.
Remember, teams are highly encouraged to have at least one representative
present during the entire competition, from 10am thru 6pm.
Here is the schedule for Friday, April 23: --- Kresge BBQ pits
10:00AM: Teams start constructing their cardboard houses. Don't forget to
grab your free t-shirt when you arrive!
6:00PM: Judges arrive and begin evaluating the houses.
6:15PM: Awards Ceremony- The winning team is announced and each team member
is awarded a $25 gift certificate to CambridgeSide Galleria.
6:30PM: Clean up. Please help us dismantle your houses and place the
cardboard in the single stream recycling dumpster behind the student center.
