Dear Friends and Colleagues:
Merrimack Valley Habitat for Humanity is excited to share some
news and information about upcoming events in the next few weeks.
Sunday, September 18 Christ Church Festival, Andover (11:00am-1:00 pm)
Merrimack Valley Habitat for Humanity has been invited to join in
of Christ Churchs Festival following the 10:00 service on Sunday. We will
have a display table and a team of volunteers on hand to tell folks about
Habitat. The Festival includes childrens activities, a buffet lunch, and
information about other Christ Church ministries. Christ Church is located
at 25 Central Street, Andover.
Thursday, September 22, 2005: Habitat Joins Timberlands Serve-A-Paloosa
We will be partnering with Timberland, the City of Lawrence, and
other Lawrence-based organizations as part of the Timberland
Serve-A-Paloosa on Thursday, September 22. Timberland will send 450 of
their employees to Lawrence to volunteer for the day, and about 100 of them
will work with MVHH and Habitat homeowners. Special projects have been
arranged, and Habitat homeowners will have the chance to partner with
Timberland and Habitat to do small repairs, painting, and landscaping of
their properties. Several of the Timberland volunteers will also be working
on our Market Common project, Railroad Street, and other sites. Want to
help? We need experienced crew chiefs. Thursday Crew and others: we need
you! Call Amy at (978) 681-8858.
Sunday, September 25, 2005 (4:00pm 5:30pm): An Evening of Music
South Congregational Church at 198 Broadway, Lawrence, is holding a musical
benefit celebration for Merrimack Valley Habitat for Humanity. Featured
performers include our very own Past Board of Directors President, Ed
Warnshuis, who will be singing with the Gentlemen Songsters. For more
information, call 978 683-2193. See the attached flier.
Thursday, September 29, 2005: Were Moving!
We will be moving to our new office space at 60 Island Street in Lawrence.
Although we will miss our home at Grace Episcopal, we are all excited about
our new offices. A special thank you to the volunteers who worked on the
final touches! Well announce plans for an Open House later this year after
weve settled in. You will be able to send mail directly to Merrimack
Valley Habitat for Humanity at 60 Island Street, Lawrence, MA 01840, after
September 29. All of our phone numbers and email addresses remain unchanged.
Sunday, October 9, 2005 Care-A-Vanners Arrive
Please join us on October 9 when we welcome our fall group of
Care-A-Vanners. We will be having a pizza party (location and time TBD).
Were not sure how many vans full of people will be coming, but were pretty
sure these generous folks will be from all over the US. Come say hello and
welcome. Also, if you would like more information, or if you would like to
donate a pizza for the party, call Julia at 978 681-8858.
Saturday, October 22, 2005: Home Dedications
Please join us as we dedicate the homes of Roberto Cruz and Milagros Carillo
(Unit C) and Luz Andujar (Unit D) at 97½ Railroad Street, Lawrence, on
Saturday, October 22 at 4:00 pm at Railroad Street. Please let us know if
youd like to help with potluck food preparation or in some other way.
Invitations will be sent out closer to the event. Try to join us,
especially if youve never been to a home dedication before! Home
dedications connect us directly to our families and our community.
FYI: We Need Help!
We need help finding volunteers. Current needs include office angels to
work part-time answering phones; family partners who will work side-by-side
with families before, during, and after the building process; and as
always construction volunteers. Contact Ana (family partners) or Amy
(other volunteers) at 978 681-8858.
Be A Habitat Greeter!
Do you have one hour on a Saturday morning just once each quarter to
welcome work groups to our work sites (all in Lawrence)? When work groups
from colleges, businesses, and churches build with us, we tell them a little
bit about the Habitat story, sign them up for lunch, and collect safety and
volunteer paperwork. A short training is available. Call Heather at
978681-8858.
FYI: Habitat Internationals Response to Hurricane Katrina
Habitat International is gathering names of people who want to volunteer
with Habitat to rebuild homes for the victims and affiliates affected by
Hurricane Katrina. Habitat International is only in the planning stages now
and will not send building crews or begin pre-building for at least two or
three months. Habitats press releases are clear about this, but people
seem to think were doing local building or putting work teams together here
at MVHH. We are anxious to help and will take our direction from Habitat
International once we learn more. You can learn more about the disaster
relief information at www.habitat.org.
THANKS TO ALL OF OUR HABITAT VOLUNTEERS!
YOU ARE APPRECIATED FOR ALL YOU DO!
Thanks, Julia
