Program Overview & Objective

To better serve and enable young-adult affordable housing efforts
throughout the country, Bike & Build is pleased to inform you of a grant
disbursement program for our Central U.S. and Northern U.S. event this
summer. Through this new program, the proceeds from these tours will be
distributed to affordable housing projects across the nation to fund
projects championed by students and young adults age 18-25. It is our
hope that this program will continue to enable housing efforts
nationwide, and provide even more opportunities for young adults to
become involved in the cause.
We welcome all housing groups to submit applications for consideration.
Applicants may include college groups (e.g. Habitat for Humanity Campus
Chapters), affordable housing advocacy organizations, and any other
organizations that work with young adults to face the housing problem in
their community. Our program aims to mobilize young adults to impact
the affordable housing cause - we welcome applications for established
programs, as well as those for innovative ideas and non-traditional
projects.

About Bike & Build

Bike & Build is an independent nonprofit organization, and an
integrated, strategic part of providing affordable housing in the
communities where we operate and throughout the United States. Through
our events, Bike & Build directs funds, volunteers, and community and
media attention to affordable housing efforts. Our programs act as
catalysts to provide affordable homes, foster the spirit of service, and
empower young adults.

Eligibility Requirements

Bike & Build requires grant applications for projects:

* That request grants between $500 and $10,000.
* From strong and active organizations dedicated to affordable
housing; Bike & Build will not fund proposals from individuals,
* Which utilize funds for projects that impact the affordable
housing landscape on a local, regional, or national level.
Construction, educational, advocacy, and other types of projects will
all be considered, and
* Which are chiefly planned and/or executed by young adults, age
18-25.
Selection Procedures

Bike & Build will solicit grant applications through a variety of
methods. All applications will be screened to ensure that they meet the
stated eligibility requirements. Accordingly, participants of Bike &
Build's Central U.S. and Northern U.S. trips will review, evaluate, and
discuss all eligible applications, and - as a group - decide upon which
projects will be funded. All funding decisions will be certified by Bike
& Build's Director.
Bike & Build will consider funding many sorts of projects that impact
low-cost and affordable housing, ranging from traditional to new and
alternative ideas.

Preference will be given to projects that:

* Address a demonstrated need and suggest a high potential of
impacting the affordable housing landscape on a local, regional, or
national level,
* Create incremental opportunities for involvement by young adults
in the affordable housing cause, and
* Will direct local, regional, or national media and community
attention to the affordable housing cause.

All successful applications will be detailed on
<http://www.bikeandbuild.org/> www.bikeandbuild.org. Organizations
receiving grants from Bike & Build must submit progress reports three
months after decisions are announced and/or at the completion of their
project.
