Good morning,
Information Services and Technology (IS&T) is pleased to announce full support for OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and higher.
Mountain Lion introduces several new features and changes, including new Notes and Reminders applications that sync with Exchange, updated Mail, Contacts, and Calendar applications, and a security feature named Gatekeeper that blocks unsigned software and reduces the risk of installing malware. A full list of new features<http://www.apple.com/osx/whats-new/> can be found on Apple's website.
The minimum system requirements to run OS X Mountain Lion are as follows:
* 2 GB of memory
* 8 GB of available space
* OS X 10.6.8 or later required to upgrade
Mountain Lion supports the following Mac models:
* iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
* MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
* MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
* Xserve (Early 2009)
* MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
* Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
* Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
IS&T has purchased Mountain Lion licenses for MIT faculty and staff for use on MIT-owned equipment. Mountain Lion can be downloaded, free of charge, from IS&T’s Software Grid<http://ist.mit.edu/macosx/108>. Before upgrading on their own, departmental users should first check with their local IT support provider regarding the rollout plan for the new operating system.
Documentation specific to OS X Mountain Lion<http://kb.mit.edu/confluence/x/XAAPC>, including upgrade instructions<http://kb.mit.edu/confluence/x/RQBpC>, can be found in the Knowledge Base.
