Hello,

I have just found this using filemaker:

http://filemakertoday.com/com/showthread.php/15658-Importing-a-fixed-width-document

Currently I am trying the 'create auto enter calcs on the result fields so it happens automatically when each record is created.'

It seems to be working! Have not gone that far yet but it is working. The several fields I have done so far have the correct data.

Thanks,
karen

Hello,

I need to find a way to automate opening of fixed width files. The file is not delimited and I am a basic excel user. Other staff will be using this solution to open these files all year long.

I did try recording a macro/template while using the excel interface to designate each field boundary and did create a template. Now I cannot figure out how to open all other files using that template. Why should that be difficult? Maybe I do not see what it is I should do.

This is on the web but we are on macs:

I can google and attempt things till the cows come home but I have not found a solution yet.

Thanks in advance for any help.

karen
