      Yes, this has happened to me with two machines - an Air and a  
Mac Pro.  On the Air, deleting the ARD prefs and components and re- 
installing ARD from the Apple download got it working again, but on  
the Pro nothing I tried worked until I re-installed Snow Leopard, and  
re-updating to 10.6.8 did not cause the problem to happen again.  I  
don't know what was different about those two machines that caused the  
problem.  Symptoms were exactly as you describe.
