Hi Aran-

If I were you I would do the following-

1. Install Mac OS X 10.5.6 or higher onto an external USB hard drive
2. Boot the Macbook Air w/ USB drive attached while holding option key
3. Select to boot from USB drive
4. Attempt to recover files for Macbook Air's HD if it is able to be  
mounted by Finder  (if not you could try a terminal command like 'dd').
