[Macpartners] SSH / FTP problem

Hi, Mac folks & computer help -

I find myself totally unable to use any type of FTP program:
Transmit, Fetch and Dreamweaver all fail to connect, giving me a
permissions error. I also can't connect in Terminal. This happened
two days ago and again yesterday, but in each instance, restarting
the computer cleared up the problem. I phoned computer help the other
day, & they told me they had no answer... other than restarting.

I tried restarting today, and it had no effect.

I usually work from home; I came to MIT today -- no difference. In
fact, I have another Mac at home, and that is having no problem
connecting to MIT. (Thank G-d for DropBox! - I was able to send a
couple of files to the other Mac using that, & upload them!)

Knowlegible people at MIT Libraries have tried many things, including

Checking to see if they were able to connect using their own user
names/password (no)

Reinstalling many things I'm too ignorant to understand.

Using Disk Utility to check my permissions (problems were found,
including discrepancies in SSH, but they wren't fixed by the First Aid
program)

The general consensus seems to be that I need my SSH suite
reinstalled.... to see if that's the problem. But if it isn't...?

How can I solve this? Can I visit N42 for help? Shall I just walk in
some time, or make an appointment?

This is a serious problem! My job is entirely based on editing &
FTPing files, and I have a major deadline due on MONDAY.

Thanks!
