IS&T worked with Apple on getting a fix for our 10.5.3 Safari
certificate issue into 10.5.4, and we are currently testing the update
to determine if the problem has been fixed. If you can currently
access all MIT certificate protected sites ( Stellar, SAP, etc. ), I
recommend not upgrading to 10.5.4 until we've finished our testing.
If and when you do decided to upgrade to 10.5.4, as with any operating
system update, you should be careful. Apple does their best to test
each update before making them public, but there's always the chance
problems still might occur. To help make the process go as smoothly
as possible, we suggest the following:
* Have a current backup of all all of your data.
* Test the upgrade on a non-production machine before installing it on
production hardware.
* Before upgrading, run the "Verify Drive" option in Disk Utility.
* Allow the installation process to complete, uninterrupted. Laptop
users should plug their machine in before doing the upgrade.
* After the upgrade, run the "Repair Permissions" option in Disk
Utility to fix any permissions issues that might have been caused the
by the installer.
