Hello,

With this message, IS&T announces the general availability and support of
two new SAPgui software releases for the MIT community's Macintosh users.
The IS&T software download page now contains an installer for SAPgui 6.30
for Mac OS X 10.3.9 "Panther" users and an installer for the initial
version of SAPgui 6.40 for Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger" users (IS&T recommends
version 10.4.3 or higher).

This announcement is meant for those colleagues, in your office or
department, that use the SAP MacOS front end software (as opposed to a
SAPweb or a CITRIX session) to execute SAP transactions from their
Macintosh machines. It is also intended for those colleagues that help
maintain such Macintosh machines. Macintosh SAPgui users should upgrade to
these releases if they want to execute SAP transactions from PowerPC-based
Macintosh machines running the Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger" operating system, or
if they encounter problems with the previous version of the SAPgui (6.20)
on Macintosh machines running Mac OS X 10.3.9.

The Macintosh SAPgui software is available for download at URL:

SAPgui 6.30 contains various bug fixes and it is compatible with the
September 2005 "Java Security Update" for Mac OS X "Panther" 10.3.9 which
has impacted some MIT Macintosh machines.

SAPgui 6.40 is designated, by SAP, as the currently preferred version of
Macintosh SAPgui software for installations and upgrades. It contains
various bug fixes and new features, such as support for Mac OS X 10.4
"Tiger" and enhancements to its controls for the display of SAP tabular (or
grid) data.

There is a known issue with both of these SAPgui versions related to the
processing of text file line-end character strings. In addition, this
"initial" SAPgui 6.40 release has been known to have issues related to
potential file upload delays and issues related to the pasting of text data
from the Macintosh clipboard.

Please note that, while the SAPgui 6.40 software is supported to run on
PowerPC-based Macintosh machines, the software is not designed (or
supported) to run on the new Intel-based Macintosh machines that Apple has
recently started shipping. IS&T plans to effect a subsequent release of
Macintosh SAPgui 6.40 software, hopefully within the next few months (after
the updated software is made generally available by SAP) in order to
provide support for Intel-based Macintosh machines and corrections for the
other known SAPgui 6.40 issues.

You can find more information, on the known issues or on the Macintosh
system requirements for this software, by clicking on the "Description"
column of the "SAPgui 6.30" and "SAPgui 6.40" rows found at the
aforementioned software download URL,
<http://web.mit.edu/software/mac.html>.
