Regarding Apple Mail getting slower and slower;

Check your mailbox quota (little gear thing-y at the lower left of
the MAil pane). It fills up pretty quickly, and you don't get a
warning. 500 MB isn't a whole lot, what with all those mime-encoded
attachments embedded in all your old emails. I'd move old emails into
local mail boxes and then delete 'em from your IMAP server.

Is this a recommended update yet, Al?

Thanks,

Hi,

Has anyone had problems with Apple Mail becoming incredibly slow (it
always seems to be busy caching, sorting, getting message headers...
anything but showing mail!)? Also, periodically all the mail disappears
from my Inbox, and I have to synchronize to get it back, but this can
take 15-30 mins. or more. Then I sometimes get all the mail, and
sometimes I'm missing the last week or two. It was working fine until
yesterday, slow-ish, but nothing like this.

I installed CFNetwork Installer a while back, and am wondering if I
need to reinstall it?

I'm using Apple Mail 1.3.11 on an OS 10.3.9 machine.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Erica

I, too, have found Mail (2.0.7 on a G5 with OS 10.4) is running
slower all the time and have experienced the same problems that you
have. Others in my department are complaining about the same thing -
a bit embarrassing as I've been encouraging people in my department
to abandon Eudora for Mail.
