Subject: Adobe Reader Release Effort Underway

Good Afternoon,

IS&T is pleased to announce that the Adobe Reader release effort has begun.
Adobe Reader 7 is the latest version provided by Adobe and is free,
universal software that lets you open, view, search, and print Adobe
Portable Document Format (PDF) files with built-in security features.

This release effort will focus on compatibility testing, basic
functionality testing, and identifying and documenting issues specifically
relevant to the MIT computing environment. These changes reflect a general
change in the release effort process for shrink-wrapped software. Their
effect is to maintain the high quality of support while decreasing the time
necessary to release the product to the MIT community.

New Features and Improvements to Adobe Reader:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
This new version of Adobe Reader provides better overall performance for
faster launch times and real-time zooming and panning. You benefit from
improved search features and a unified selection tool. Adobe Reader 7.0
lets you fill out and submit PDF forms with spell-checking (full version

word processing documents, spreadsheets, and multimedia files. You can also
view and organize digital editions (formerly eBooks) and view them in
landscape or portrait mode.

In addition to these features, authors creating PDF files using Adobe
Acrobat 7.0 Professional can activate special features in Adobe Reader 7.0
that enable you to review, mark up, and add comments to PDF files. To read
