I created three new accounts but, in each case, I got the same
1-2-3-4-pause chugging sequence after I logged on to the new account,
so I had to force a restart. Logging on to a new user account is the
only other event on the machine (except for accessing the main Apps
folder in the Finder) that triggers the chugging.
Someone suggested that the sound may be signaling a failing hard drive.
Next I plan to try Disk Warrior's Hardware Monoitoring. Let me know
if this doesn't sound like a good idea.
Thanks,
Janet
