Good afternoon,
Information Systems is pleased to announce support for MacZephyr
1.5.2, the latest version of the Macintosh client for the zephyr
protocol, a real-time messaging and notification system used by MIT
students, staff and faculty. MacZephyr can also be used to
communicate with users at other institutions with a zephyr
infrastructure.
New Features in MacZephyr 1.5.2
-------------------------------
- Runs natively on Mac OS X (10.2 or later)
- Can send a zephyr message to multiple recipients
- Open URL command for opening URLs received in zephyr messages
- Can specify fonts for the list and messages windows
- Improved support for communicating with zephyr users in other realms
For more new features, see
http://web.mit.edu/is/help/maczephyr/features-osx.html.
Who Should Upgrade and Why
--------------------------
Users who are using MacZephyr 1.3.4 (or earlier) in Mac OS X's
Classic environment should upgrade to MacZephyr 1.5.2, as it runs
natively on Mac OS X 10.2 or later. Users of Mac OS X 10.1 or Mac OS
9.2.2 (or earlier) should continue to use MacZephyr 1.3.4.
For users that are upgrading from previous versions of MacZephyr, I/S
includes a program for converting subscription and anyone files into
the required format for MacZephyr 1.5.2. See
http://web.mit.edu/is/help/maczephyr/import-osx.html for more
information.
If your department has a local computer administrator, then IS
recommends that you consult him or her first before downloading and
installing this new software. If your department does not have a
local computer administrator, then IS recommends that you carefully
review the list of new features and bug fixes and determine whether
you would benefit from upgrading to this newer version before
downloading and installing it.
