Dear IT partners,

Our MIT office has an opening for a contract position to work 1-2
days per week as outlined below. Our current consultant will leave in
September. Ideally, we would like this person to begin work at the
beginning of August to allow some time for training. The initial
commitment of time will be 1-4 months, with the possibility of an
annual contract.

If you know of anyone who could meet these needs, please feel free to
forward the listing to them.

Thanks,

Monica Lee
PSB director

needs of our communication advising group consisting of 13 employees
and approximately 20 machines. This person would support us in our
computer management and growth needs.

using applications such as FileMaker Pro, QuarkXPress, InDesign,
Photoshop, Illustrator, Microsoft Office, Meeting Maker and many
other MIT-specific applications (Eudora Pro, SAP, TSM, Brio, etc). We
currently run a Mac OS X Server which serves FileMaker and
MeetingMaker databases as well as providing centralized office
filesharing. We also maintain two Windows machines, three networked
printers (including a server-based color printer), and various
peripherals (primarily scanners and PDAs).

This person would:
- research and coordinate hardware and software purchasing and implementation
- maintain records on all PSB hardware, software, and network information
- maintain vendor service contracts and coordinate
maintenance/repairs as needed
- troubleshoot network, software, and hardware problems
- support network-related functions such as printing, filesharing, and back-ups
- provide insight/direction for future computing needs
- maintain Mac OS X server
- keep up-to-date on latest virus alerts, hardware and software news,
as well as MIT-specific info
- keep applications up-to-date, assist with installation of updates as needed
- have good working knowledge of FileMaker Pro to make edits to our
centralized job tracking system
- be available via email/phone as needed for occasional questions
and/or troubleshooting
- be able to direct users to appropriate MIT resource (i.e., the Help
Desk) for additional support

Requirements:
At least two-three years computing support experience in a Macintosh
environment supporting Mac OS 9.2.2, 10.2.X, and OS X Server machines
(Windows experience a plus). Experience needed in troubleshooting
system software, network configurations, and a variety of software
products, including e-mail clients and web browsers. Seek individual
who is resourceful, persistent, and effective (both in person and
over the phone) while working with users and service providers. Given
the job hours, individual must have strong time management,
organizational, and multitasking skills. Experience in higher
education environment (preferably MIT) helpful.

Interested applicants should send a resume and cover letter to <molee at mit.edu>.
