Because .Mac doesn't use Kerberos, it can't get mail from the MIT mail
servers using POP. Unless Apple adds Kerberos authentication, you can't
use .Mac to access the MIT servers.

You could have your mail forwarded to your .Mac address; see
http://web.mit.edu/is/topics/email/forward.html for more information.

The short answer is that, yes, it's possible to run Pine on your
PowerBook.
The longer answer is that, unless you have a good reason and you know
what you're doing, you should probably use Eudora, which Information
Systems provides a great deal of support for. See
http://itinfo.mit.edu/product?vid=545. Mac OS X comes with Mail, which
isn't supported by Information Systems, but is being used by lots of
people at MIT.

Having said that, if you still wish to use Pine, I would suggest doing
a google on 'Pine Mac OS X' to get a list of websites that can assist
you in either building Pine from the source code or downloading
binaries for Mac OS X. Keep in mind that if you wish to use Pine at
MIT, you'll need to use IMAP or a version of Pine that supports
Kerberos if you're going to use POP.
