[Macpartners] file transfer help needed

folks

i transferred  eudora, excel, word and powerpoint files from a 
slightly older OS X and office on a G$ laptop to  a new OS X (10.2.6) 
and office.

the eudora and excel files will open, but no word or powerpoint ones will.

work will recognize the file as a word file in the open command 
window, but not highlight the open command. if you double click , you 
get a message that says try using open, or make sure its a word file.

newly created word files will save and open ok.

any hints.
