The Black School of Business of Penn State Behrend is seeking qualified applicants for a Tenure-Track Faculty position in Project and Supply Chain Management starting Fall 2024. Qualified candidates will be considered for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor (Ph.D. or DBA in Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, or related fields required; candidates must have their degree by the start date).
Qualifications require the ability to teach both supply chain management and project management courses. Research interests can be in either or both disciplines. A record of relevant industry or teaching experience in supply chain and/or project management is desirable. Both high-quality teaching and an active program of scholarship are expected of the selected candidate.
Teaching assignments will include a combination of courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. These courses will include both online and residential instruction. Specific teaching assignments may include introductory courses in business statistics, introductory and advanced courses in supply chain management, and project management. Research support includes guaranteed summer research support, full access to major statistical packages and databases, and funded travel to professional meetings. Salary is negotiable and competitive with other AACSB-accredited schools of business.
Penn State Behrend is an undergraduate and graduate college of The Pennsylvania State University. Situated on a beautiful, wooded 854-acre hillside campus recognized as a U.S. arboretum, we have four academic schools (Business; Engineering; Humanities and Social Sciences; and Science); student residential living; a range of research programs and outreach centers; and a highly successful business and technology park. With 5,000 students in resident instruction and online programs offered through Penn State World Campus, we uniquely blend the atmosphere and focus on teaching at a small college with access to the academic, research, and professional development resources of a Big 10, R1 University. Our college is an open laboratory of learning and discovery where students gain real-life experience engaging with business, industry, and community partners. We seek faculty members who share our commitment to teaching and scholarship, the holistic development of students, and principles of respect, diversity, and inclusiveness.
The Black School of Business is accredited by AACSB International and listed among the Best Business Schools by Princeton Review. It offers 10 undergraduate majors, a hybrid MBA delivered at two locations, and an online Master of Project Management (MPM) program, distinctive programs in the country, and an International Business degree, which also allows students to specialize in a functional area such as business economics or finance. The Black School houses the Center for Financial Literacy and the Center for Family Business. The school supports a growing, all-campus interest in research that addresses issues of women's health, energy and sustainability, and polymer science.
The Black School of Business occupies a new $30 million facility, with the School of Engineering providing a basis for a multi-disciplinary educational experience for students, interdisciplinary research for faculty, and joint opportunities for industry engagement. The $20 million endowment, with a market value of approximately $36 million today, provides significant support for the School's programs. The endowment helps fund undergraduate scholarships, graduate assistantships, library and information technology resources, outreach activities, several faculty chairs, endowed professorships, and new programming initiatives.
Erie, Pennsylvania, is a metropolitan area of more than a quarter million people located on the southern shores of Lake Erie, two hours from Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Buffalo. The area's economy reflects a mix of educational, medical, industrial, tourism, and service activity; the region is home to five colleges and universities, including Penn State Behrend. The area is celebrated for its exceptional school districts, which offer a thriving environment for youth educational development, and provide a supportive and engaging community for families. Northwestern Pennsylvania offers abundant cultural, sports, and recreational opportunities with four seasons of adventure. Summers feature miles of beaches, a range of lake sports, and festivals every weekend, and the winters are made for skiing, skating, and more. It is easy to get around, housing is affordable, and the cost of living is modest. Erie offers relaxed, comfortable living.
Workforce diversity, cultural inclusiveness, and employment equity are deeply rooted in Penn State's historic mission. Just as we are committed to being a diverse educational environment, we are also committed to being a diverse working community. As a community, we endeavor to be a mixture of cultural backgrounds, life experiences, individual perspectives, and numerous other characteristics that add variety and vitality to the workplace.
