Position Title: CSX Chair in Transportation & Logistics
Position Description
The University of North Florida (UNF) in Jacksonville is seeking a professor or associate professor to fill the CSX Chair in Transportation & Logistics beginning August 2022.
The University of North Florida
UNF is a vital part of the thriving Jacksonville metropolitan area in northeast Florida. Jacksonville is called "America's Logistics Center" due to its vast logistics infrastructure including JAXPort, CSX, Norfolk Southern, interstate highway connections to I-95, I-75 and I-10, major corporate facilities of firms such as Crowley, CEVA Logistics, and Landstar, and large distribution centers for Amazon, BMW, Grainger, Imes and others.
UNF's campus is located on a 1000-acre nature preserve, 10 miles from the Atlantic Ocean and midway between downtown and the city's beaches. UNF offers students small class sizes and individualized attention from faculty, and strong job placement. A public institution and member of the State University System of Florida, UNF serves 17,000 students. UNF is nationally ranked at No. 132 among public universities by U.S. News & World Report, having moved from unranked to 140 to 136 to 132 over the past four years. UNF is in the top 100 among nationally ranked public universities in each of the four primary outcome categories tracked by the publication.
The Coggin College of Business is AACSB-accredited in business and accounting with approximately 2500 undergraduate and 500 graduate students, and it has been ranked a "Best Business School" by Princeton Review for 13 consecutive years. The Coggin College of Business is positioned for excellence and provides a balanced environment for outstanding teaching, scholarly research, and dedicated service.
Logistics is identified as one of four areas of university distinction in the UNF Strategic Plan. The CSX endowed chair will be funded by the CSX Transportation Eminent Scholar in Transportation and Logistics Endowment, which has a corpus of about 1.8 million dollars. The Transportation & Logistics (T&L) program recently received a $2.5 million endowment from Crowley Maritime Corporation, launching the Crowley Center for Transportation & Logistics (CCTL). CCTL is an interdisciplinary research center focused on investigating problems and developing solutions in the areas of transportation & logistics and supply chain management. The T&L program serves an active logistics professional community and fosters the intellectual growth of students for the local, regional and national market. Together, the support of the local business community, the CCTL, a dedicated Logistics Information Technology Solutions Lab, and Jacksonville's geographic advantage, have placed the UNF T&L program among the best in the nation. UNF offers a Master of Science in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, an MBA with a concentration in Transportation & Logistics, and a Bachelor of Science in Transportation & Logistics.
