Special issue on Interfaces in supply chains

Supply chains typically contain geographically dispersed facilities connected by transportation links where raw material, intermediate or finished products are acquired, transformed, stored and sold. These facilities are operated by vendors, transportation carriers, logistics service providers, logistics service intermediaries, wholesalers, retailers and customers. Integration is an important and practical matter in today's globalized supply chains. This has led companies and organizations to place increasing emphasis on creating a seamless workflow environment from one business function to another. The academic research community recognizes the importance of providing problem-solving direction to the different, and sometimes conflicting, functional perspectives of logistics and manufacturing. The research streams that characterize these issues are in the domain of supply chain interfaces. Supply chain interfaces are areas where information or physical goods are exchanged between one trading partner and another -- where trading partners "interface'' with one another to achieve the successful transfer of goods and/or information. The configuration and the operation of seamless flows of material, goods and information within supply chains require efficient interfaces between facilities and stakeholders. Interfaces are vital in terms of the physical transformation of products as well as for the transformation of data and information flows.

The goal of this special issue is to present the state-of-the-art and new approaches of the management of interfaces in supply chains.

We invite manuscripts in the following areas:

 *   Institutional and functional aspects of interfaces in supply chain management;
 *   Theory building in Interfaces for logistics and supply chain management;
 *   Supply network management;
 *   Interfaces for supply chain planning Interfaces for supply chain controlling;
 *   Interfaces in reverse logistics;
 *   Interfaces for transport planning and management in supply chains;
 *   E-logistics;
 *   Information technology infrastructure, interface devices; and
 *   Communications, databases and system architecture.

Author guidelines

Manuscripts should comply with the scope, standards, format and editorial policy of the International Journal of Physical Distribution & Logistics Management.

In the preparation of their manuscripts, authors are asked to follow the IJPDLM manuscript requirements closely, paying particular attention to the word count, which should be between 3,000 and 6,000 words.

All papers will be reviewed through a double-blind peer review process. Your manuscript should include a separate title page, identifying all authors. The authors should not be identified anywhere else in the article.
