I don't see any particular reason that we should. I ssume that this
patch went in with 1.5? I don't see -brtl in 1.4.

who was the author of the patch?

I can look into reverting it. I seem to recall that the process to build
the db2 plugin assumes that plugins have a .so extension, and that if
you do normal AIX linking, the rules for generating shared libraries
will be based on generating .a files and make throws up it's hands
saying it doesn't know how to make .so files. I can look into that too
though.
